May 24, 2008

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. flag officially debuts at The King Center.  Dr. King’s flag now flies daily at The King Center.  Dr. King’s flag is now for sale at The King Center gift shop. 



May 31, 2008

  • Dr. King’s flag is unveiled at The Leimert Park Book Fair, Los Angeles, CA.   Ms. Donzaleigh Abernathy, author of Partners To History and daughter of fellow civil rights leader, Ralph Abernathy, introduced Dr. King’s flag to the citizens of the Leimert Park area.

June 6, 2008

  • Maria Ross was an invited guest by the ADL to speak at the Walk for Respect press conference and march, to mark the 10-year anniversary of the murder of James, Byrd, Jr.  Maria delivered a powerful speech and presented Ms. Taylor, sister of the late James Bryd Jr., with Dr. King’s flag.  The Walk for Respect, coordinated by Anti Defamation League (ADL), brought nearly 100 people together to mark the anniversary and rededicated them selves to fighting hatred in Byrd's name. Before the walk, James Byrd, Jr.'s sister Clara Taylor, hate crime victim Maria Ross, ADL Regional Director Martin B. Cominsky, representatives of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA), Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), the Institute for Interfaith Dialog (IID), and State Representative Scott Hochberg (D-Houston) talked about the impact of hate crimes on their constituents, and the importance of the hate crime law sponsored by Hochberg and named after Byrd. Father Phil Lloyd of St. Theresa Catholic Church, which hosted the news conference, also spoke about the need for everyone to fight prejudice, racism, and hatred.  Click here to read more

 June  2008 – Juneteenth Celebrations

  • Dallas, Texas - Dr. King’s flag was unveiled at the Dallas 5th Annual Stone Soul Picnic, celebrating Juneteenth festivities.  The Ross’ family unveiled the flag on stage and presented Tom Joyner with the MLK flag.  Also, present were members of the Bar-Kays.  This event was hosted by 94.5 Ksoul. 

  • Houston, Texas - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee debuts Dr. King’s flag at The 2nd Annual Houston Juneteenth Multicultural Health Festival.  Maria and Dwayne speak about the mission of Ross Flags in conjunction with the Ross Family Story.  Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was a key figure in assisting Dwayne and Maria Ross in the after-math of the cross burning.  Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee invites Dwayne and Maria Ross to be her special guest at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Conference in September 2008.  Also, attending the Houston Juneteenth Celebrations was Bill White, Mayor of Houston, Congressman, Al Green, Judson Robinson III, President of Houston Urban League, Rodney Ellis, Senator, District 13, Jonathon Lack, Executive Director of Houston Wellness Association, Francis Page Jr., Publisher of Houston Style Magazine and members of the Temptations.  Dwayne and Maria personally met these dignitaries and had great dialogue regarding the vision and purpose of Dr. King’s flag. 

  • Fontana, California – At the dedication and unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to the Children’s Library, a 65 million dollar venture, Assembly Member, Wilmer Amina Carter presented the MLG flag to Mayor Pro Tem, Acquanetta Warren.  Ms. Warren tireless dedication was the driving force behind the scene to ensure the MLK Children’s’ Library became a reality. 

  • Pomona, California – Ross Flags and Designs attends the 19th Annual Pomona Valley Juneteenth Family Jazz Festival.  The MLK flag is unveiled on stage.

  • Dallas - AW Brown Charter School, Paula Dunn Brown, Principal & Executive Director,first school in United Sates to receive and display MLK Flag in the United States.

  • Opelousas, Louisiana - Dwayne and Maria Ross guest speaker, Donald Cravens, (City Mayor) Morning Radio Show, flag presented to Opelousas Mayor
  • Donaldsonville, Louisiana Juneteenth Festival displayed MLK Flag at River Roads Museum

  • Elite News Magazine feature Maria Ross in Weekly Hall of Fame

  • Washington DC - Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee invites Dwayne & Maria Ross to 2008 Congressional Black Conference.  Ross Flags and Designs donates a specially designed fringe flags to each member of CBC.
  • Chicago, Illinois - Roland Martin interviews Maria Ross on morning radio show “live” from Chicago. 

November 2008

Diversity Inc Magazine writes article about the election of President Barrack Obama.  Carolynn L. Johnson, vice president of business development writes the story and poses with Dr. King’s flag. Ms. Johnson informed readers about Dr. King’s flag and poses for a picture with Dr. King’s flag. 

December 2008

Lake Charles, Louisiana -Jeff Davis Bank donates 61 MLK Flags to schools in Calcasieu Parish, La.
